Clinging

Clinging, originally uploaded by Ted Cabeen.

Although the butterfly season in Goleta is coming to a close, there are still a few left. Here they are clinging to a eucalyptus branch.

Disease

Disease, originally uploaded by Ted Cabeen.

Christina spotted these diseased flowers on the sidewalk near my house over the weekend. I really like the color play between the flower petal and the brown disease.

The Rain & Splash

The Rain & Splash, originally uploaded by Ted Cabeen.

This is the rain that created the lovely lake in Shayna’s previous picture. I haven’t done a lot of high-speed stop-action photography, so I’m happy about how this came out. I wanted something different than the traditional drop-in-midair photo, and this splash is what I wanted.

Usually there isn’t water here. The recent storms have been kind to my camera and me.

Happy

Happy, originally uploaded by Ted Cabeen.

I’ve been sick this last week, so I haven’t taken many photos, nor have I had the energy to go through older ones to post.

However, I did capture this one of Littlest playing with a colander. She is one happy baby. :)

Network

Network, originally uploaded by Ted Cabeen.

The period just after a rain often makes for really good pictures. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten out after the rains of the last few days until this evening.

The network of twigs on this tree silhouetted against the sky and clouds speaks to me in this photo, but I’m not exactly sure how. Perhaps it has something do to with the rain and the intrusion of the natural world onto the normal perfect weather we seem to always have here in Santa Barbara.

At least the clouds are pretty.

Signage

Signage, originally uploaded by Ted Cabeen.

I love signs with raised letters. They really lend themselves to macro-like shots like this one. This sign is in the older part of Santa Barbara, around the Mission.

Fog Morning

Fog Morning, originally uploaded by Ted Cabeen.

In the mornings in the fall, we get this lovely fog on the open fields near our house. They’re planning on building faculty housing here, so I’m not sure this shot will be here next October. This one was taken in 2007.

Andrew in Blur

Andrew in Blur, originally uploaded by Ted Cabeen.

I don’t usually post images with motion blur or color tint, but this one just looks cool as-is. It was taken late in the day, with the sun low in the sky and everything illuminated with a pink tone. I could have White Balanced it out (and I have a version that does have it that way), but I decided to leave it for this version.

autumn light

autumn light, originally uploaded by slingram.

I love maple leaves. On a technical note, Ted and I discovered that our photos are losing color and details when we convert them from RAW to JPEG. This isn’t all that surprising; however, neither of us really noticed it until Ted created his ‘Arch’ image and I created the image you see above. For whatever reason, these two images came out distinctly different from the versions we see in Lightroom. For posting on Aperture, I added a lot more red to this image than I originally did to make the JPEG version more dynamic, but unfortunately some of the detail in the leaf’s veins may be lost.
