Today marks one month since the passing of my puppy, Chakotay. I miss him.
The Way
May has been a very busy month for us, and Aperture was not as high a priority as it should have been. That said, June is here, and I’m hoping that this picture is the beginning of a new way forward, and not just a continuation of the old path. We’ll see.
evening at home
A house in our neighborhood, nestled in the eucalyptus trees. A friend of mine photographs our neighborhood quite often; she takes a lot of wide-shots, considers spaces empty of people, and focuses on architecture. I was interested in pursuing a similar tone.

I really enjoy taking pictures of random people on the UCSB campus. Here’s a guy engaged in a very interesting cell phone call.

San Simeon State Park camp grounds in April. After a small crop and some spot editing (dust on the lens), I gave this image more of a green tint; warmed the temperature slightly to avoid making it too blue/green; upped the shadows and darks in curves; and saturated the reds, oranges, yellows, greens, aquas, and (most especially) blues.

There’s a dock on the UCSB lagoon for kayaking, and these birds love to hang out there during the day. I need to go back sometime soon and get more shots of them. They are very photogenic.

At sunset, at San Simeon State Beach. I didn’t know this family, but they walked into my photo at just the right time.
Interestingly, Lightroom’s Auto Tone did a great job of this photo. I find that it often has trouble with darker images, but it did a great job here bringing out the colors in this shot.

A mime-inspired, vaudeville-ish, carnivale-like troupe of characters that call themselves Steam Powered Giraffe. Admittedly, this isn’t the best portrait of four people (blurred hands, closed eyes), but the look on the third man’s face made it worth it to me.

Although it was high noon, at f/2.8, this bench really glowed at me when underexposed. I like the brightness from the sandy area with all of the darkness around it.

A lily in the Balboa Park botanical gardens in San Diego. Still struggling with file degradation; the reds are much stronger in Lightroom. I’m annoyed how much post-post-editing (read: color exaggeration) I have to do to make my images web-ready.
